Privacy policy
Last updated: 3 November 2026
Happy is a focus and voice assistant for Windows. This policy says what Happy keeps on your PC, what it sends over the internet and when, and how you can delete it.
Happy has no account, no analytics and no ads. Its developer runs no server that receives your data.
What stays on your PC
Happy keeps this data in a local database on your PC, in your Windows user profile. It is never uploaded.
- Focus sessions, breaks, reminders, to-dos and notes, and the stats built from them.
- Clipboard history: text you copy, up to 50 items. Pinned items are kept until you remove them. Copies that password managers mark as private are never saved.
-
Shelf: the list of files you drop on the island (the files themselves stay where they are), and the
results of shelf jobs such as zips and conversions. Those are kept in Happy's folder:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Happy, orDocuments\Happy Shelfin the Microsoft Store version. Unpinned items leave the shelf after the time you choose (30 days unless you change it), and results Happy made go with them. - Computer time, if activity tracking is on: minutes with keyboard or mouse use, and the names of the apps in front.
- Settings, and which display and camera you chose.
- Resource log: how much processor and memory each part of Happy used. It is kept for three days.
- Keys you enter for online services are stored in Windows Credential Manager.
Camera. If you turn on presence detection, Happy looks at camera frames on your PC to tell whether someone is in your seat. Frames are processed in memory and then discarded. Nothing is recorded, saved or sent. Happy does not recognise faces or identities, detect emotions, track eyes or score productivity.
Microphone. Voice is off until you set it up. Speech recognition and Happy's voice then run on your PC. If you turn on "Hey Happy", the microphone listens on your PC for those words; nothing leaves the PC until you choose an online voice below. Nothing you say is saved or logged by Happy.
What is sent over the internet, and when
Happy only goes online for features you choose to use:
| Feature | What is sent | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| Lyrics, when you press the lyrics button | The song's title, artist and length | LRCLIB (lrclib.net) |
| Gemini Live voice, if you choose it | Your voice audio while you talk to Happy | Google, using your own API key |
| A thinking model, if you choose one | The text of what you said, and the conversation so far | The provider you picked (for example Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Mistral or OpenRouter), using your own API key |
| Letting Happy use your computer, if you turn it on | Screenshots of your screen while a task runs, and the task you asked for | Google Gemini, using your own API key |
| Internet speed test, when you run it | Test data only | Cloudflare (speed.cloudflare.com) |
| Check for updates, when you press it (not in the Microsoft Store version, which the Store updates) | A request for the latest version number; nothing about you | Happy's website |
| Voice and helper downloads, when you install them | A download request; nothing about you | The sites that host them (GitHub and Hugging Face) |
When you use a provider with your own key, that provider's own privacy policy covers what it does with the data. Happy does not send it anywhere else.
Coding agents you connect in Settings, and Hermes if you connect it, are separate programs: they run under their own provider and settings.
Reporting a reply. Happy's replies are made by AI and can be wrong. If you press Report on a reply, your own mail app opens with that reply and Happy's version in a new email to Happy's developer. Nothing is sent unless you send that email.
Your choices
- Every online feature above is off until you turn it on or press its button.
- Settings › Privacy & data › Save a copy of your data saves a copy of your data in one file, in your Downloads folder.
